Findus and the rooster in the henhouse
by Sven Nordqvist
Stage adaptation by Nicole Buhr, Christine Härter and Lukas Schneider
Pettersson lives on his cosy farm with his cat Findus and his crazy chickens. Sometimes Findus teases the chickens and they have great fun together.
But one day, everything changes. Pettersson has rescued the rooster Caruso from Gustavsson’s soup pot and brought him home. ‘Just look how happy the chickens are,’ he exclaims. And indeed, the chickens are absolutely mad with excitement and pay Findus no attention at all anymore. Findus thinks the cockerel is simply ridiculous, strutting about like that and letting the silly chickens admire him. Nothing is fun anymore since Caruso arrived on the farm. Whenever the cat wants to play with the hens, he is chased away by the cockerel. As if that weren’t enough, Caruso crows almost non-stop and so loudly that the woodpile collapses.
Findus feels neglected and excluded: “Why is Caruso always allowed to be so loud and I’m not?” Pettersson replies: “A cockerel has to crow,” even though he can barely stand the noise himself. Findus is determined to do something about the cockerel and hatches a plan to wean Caruso off his crowing.
“Findus and the Rooster in the Henhouse” is another heart-warming adventure from the series featuring Pettersson and Findus, which continues at the BOXX as a puppet theatre production. This charming story humorously explores emotions such as jealousy and the need for recognition and friendship.

“A loving, lively, and at times boisterous production that thrives on the ensemble’s physical acting and, despite its serious subject matter and lack of a happy ending, remains humorous and conciliatory. At the premiere on Sunday afternoon, the audience applauded heartily for a production that continues the success of its predecessor [...] [...] Sonia Glade plays Findus, a playful contemporary, cheeky, occasionally quick-tempered, even cunning, with a penchant for pancakes and almost constantly on the move from the very start. [...] Max Lamperti as Pettersson is Findus’s counterpart and happiest when he can make himself comfortable with a cup of coffee and the newspaper. [...] The charm of this sequel for theatregoers aged four and above is once again enhanced by the blend of live acting and puppet theatre. Lukas Schneider has not only built the new character Caruso [...], but also skilfully switches [...] back and forth between the various roles.”
